E67: A gut healing story about recovering from lyme disease with Carley Smith ("aka" fairy gutmother)
We are thrilled to bring you today’s guest, Carley Smith, AKA Fairy Gutmother®, who is a Nutritional Therapist, Certified GAPS Practitioner, and Registered Yoga Teacher. Carley became interested in health and nutrition after being diagnosed with Lyme disease, using food as medicine and focusing on gut health to help heal. She became so empowered by her progress in her healing based on diet and lifestyle changes and emphasizing gut health, that she started her business, Fairy Gutmother®, so she could help spread awareness around nutrition.
Carley is adamant about promoting the "gut health lifestyle" as it is more than a diet, rather, a combination of food and environment that play a role in the health of the microbiome.
Carley has been a featured guest on The Dr. Oz Show and is a frequent guest for Colorado’s Own Channel 2 News, and the popular iHeart Radio show Modern Eater. Her articles have been published in major worldwide publications including MindBodyGreen, Yoga + Life Magazine, and Paleo Magazine to name a few. She also leads numerous workshops, public speaking events, and cooking demonstrations centered around the "gut health lifestyle."
During our conversation today Carley shares her personal journey with Lyme disease, and specifically how she healed herself. We talk a lot about the specific types of foods that she used including the GAPS diet, as well as lifestyle changes including movement and stress, which both play a significant role on your gut health.
Carley does such a wonderful job explaining gut health, using great analogies that simplify a fairly complicated topic for anyone to understand. She shares many practical tips to help heal your gut from her own health journey, as well as helping numerous people in her own practice. You won't want to miss this episode!
